Worst Week Ever: Republicans Unhinged

I just started a "worst legislation award" humor of course. None of this mess is funny however, so perhaps I should add a "just plain stupid" award for the dumbest actions by an elected official.



I could not resist the monkey bill for my first target. This proves that dumb does not belong to any particular party.

Promoting Doubt: Bill Maher on the DVD Release of <i>Religulous</i>

I think Bill Maher and myself are joined at the frontal lobes.



Almost without fail when a topic arises I have arrived at the same answers Bill would...almost always.



He has his own tone no doubt. But then so did the late, great George Carlin. Let's not forget the outlandish and seemingly cruel insults by Don Rickles who both had them rolling on the floor.



That is what comedy is and each successful comedian has his/her own signature style.



What Comedians like Maher, Jon Steward, George Carlin, and many others bring to the table is thought. More than just making you laugh, they want you to think at the same time. Nothing does this better than controversy. Why else are politicians such fodder for the joke writers?



I want to see this movie. I wish I could enjoy Bill's show but HBO costs money and I don't have the spare dinero to tune him in these days.



Keep it up Bill, Jon and the spirit of Carlin where ever you are.

The Republicans Want A Depression

It is typical of Republicans to worry about how much money a middle class worker is allowed to earn.



They did nothing to limit the multi-million dollar wages and bonus packages of the Wall Street tycoons when they passed the first bail out bill.



But then the bankers are not unionized and we know what Republicans think of organized labor when it eats into corporate profits and the dividends paid to share holders.



It is those very wage earners who's tax dollars are being tapped to support the bail outs.



I also wonder if they realize that reducing wages on families already strapped to live could lead to even more foreclosures when those wage cuts make it impossible to make mortgage payments.

For what it's worth I decided to create a fictional auction with certificates on eBay to "sell" the vacant seat. Going to give the profits to Toys for Tots so at lease someone will get something out of this fiasco.

Rod Blagojevich Arrested: The Damage He Could Do

First point is that no party has an exclusive on dirty politicians. Remember Ted Stevens, a republican from Alaska just convicted of numerous felonies? Remember Nixon who resigned to avoid impeachment? Greed is all too common in politics...sad fact.



As for republicans making a big stink, perhaps this is a signal that they plan to be uncooperative when it comes to getting anything done for Americans. I don't recall the Democrats jumping all over the Republicans over Ted Stevens.
